Wakas : Wake up bro you won’t be able to eat after an hour

Bro 1 : Ok coming in a minute

Wakas : (Goes into the other room of his other bro) Wake up now me making some stuff in the kitchen and make sure you don’t make noises or mum will wake up she ain’t well.

Bro 2 : Ok me coming

All three bros sitting in the living room while Wakas is making some parathas and preparing for their first fast that will open in the next 16 hours.

The feeling is amazing, the time is holy and a soul cleansing procedure starts…

What am I talking about?

Ramadan, ofcourse :) Ramadan is the month when our Holy Quran was revealed, providing guidance for the people, and the clear teachings. It’s the ninth lunar month in the Islamic calendar.

Millions of Muslims around the world fast from dawn to the sunset in this holy month. But what is it that makes it so interesting is that in it’s own simple way it teaches one to learn to look around and see those who are unable to access food whenever they want like most of us, and learn to appreciate what God has granted us with. Fruits and vegetables clothed in small cute little wraps for us to enjoy and fill our tummies with.

Medical professionals from various times have agreed to the benefits of fasting to our health. Because it gives our internal organs the very much required rest. The thing is that fasting is not just refraining from food like some people think. It also makes us see the important aspects of this sacred time for us Muslims.

As wikipedia says:

It also allows Muslims to practice self-discipline, sacrifice, and sympathy for those who are less fortunate, intended to make Muslims more generous and charitable. Muslims can eat after the sun has set. Pregnant women, the elderly, the ill, and travellers are all exempt from fasting as lack of food and liquid in these situations could be detrimental to health. The fast is also not considered compulsory in childhood (typically considered to end at puberty), although many children endeavour to complete as many fasts as possible, as practice for later life.

Three things I will make sure of this Ramadan

  • Pray regularly
  • Read Quran with translation
  • Get up to help the rest of the family fast

What are the three things you are going to make sure you do this Ramadan (and later on too)?

For other lovely readers who aren’t muslims.. you are welcome to comment ofcourse :)

Ten reasons for having tea

Written by :

I don’t usually drink tea that much but on occasions I might take a sip or two. But if you are a tea fanatic maybe you can use this list to impress your uncles and aunts in the next time they visit you peeps.

1. Antioxidants
Antioxidants in the tea protect our body from the effects of pollution and minor ravage of aging

2. Caffeine is lot less than coffee
There is two to three times more caffein in coffee than tea. If you can’t handle coffee than go for tea, which contains 30 to 40 mg caffeine per cup rather than 135 mg – oops almost wrote MB for megabytes lol

3. Prevents heart attack / stroke
Tea can help keep your arteries smooth and clog-free. A study showed 70% lower risk of heart attack in people who had 2 to 3 cups of tea (black) compared to those that don’t drink.

4. Protects your bones
It’s said that people who drink tea often had stronger bones despite their age, body weight and excercise routines.

5. Yummy smile
Tea actually contains flouride and tannins that keep plaque at bay. So if you are not into the sugary tea then use unsweetened version.

6. Immune defense gets stronger
Research shows that those who had tea compared to coffee had a higher immune activity…

7. Fights cancer..what??
The stuff called polyphenols. The antioxidant which is found in tea is known for cancer-fighting effects. But obviously it’s just an antioxidant, so can’t protect you completely..

8. It will keep you hydrated
Obviously water for me is best in this case, but it’s sad that tea or other caffeinated drinks do contribute to our fluid needs

9. Lose weight..woohooo
There are no calories in tea, unless you add sweetner or milk.. But then again I am not saying have 5 snicker bars a day and one cup of tea.. no no

10. Increases your metabolism
It’s said that green tea increases our metabolic rate so we can additionally burn 70 to 80 calories by drinking upto 5 cups a day. But once again, do walk as a well to burn calories.

But the reason I usually have tea is whenever I am not well or just want to feel relaxed as I never got used to coffee unless it’s as sweet as tea itself ..

What about you? Do you have any reasons why one SHOULD have tea or shouldn’t.. :)

Jealousy eats you up alive..

Written by :
31 August 2008

There have been numerous times in your life that might have held you by the neck and shook you from left to right leaving you totally confused and wondering “WHY DON’T I HAVE WHAT THE OTHER PERSON NEXT TO ME HAS?”

The very early stages of jealousy can be when you go back into your childhood. When another kid took your toys and you just couldn’t take it, your mum loved your other brother more than you and you couldn’t manage to grasp why that’s happening, in school the other kid sitting next to you might have a wonderful schoolbag while you couldn’t manage to get one and so on. Those are natural things that happen in that phase, but if they are carried over into the adult phase. That’s when things get out of hand. REALLY out of hand.

Jealousy eats us up alive, just like the title of this blog entry says. Because when we are jealous what we don’t see or in other words what we don’t want to see is someone else’s happiness, or someone else’s success.

There are lots of ways you can manage how to NOT be jealous. One needs to go deep into their soul to realize that if they are jealous of someone’s success of happiness, then they aren’t doing themselves any favor. The mind would get twisted ideas, and totally work the opposite of your success.

Because in the long run, the jealous person would be busier in feeling sorry for him/herself rather than doing anything constructive. As the time they spend in feeling bad could have been used to make their skills and personality shine like the brightest of stars in the darkest of skies.

Many people confuse envy with jealousy so below is the list of the differences as to how these terms really fit in:-

Jealousy involves:

* Being angry or very suspicious
* Fear of losing something or someone
* Being sad over loss or having self-esteem issues
* Being lonely or very uncertain in a situation
* Not trusting the other person
* Or just being scared of losing a loved one to someone else

Envy involves:

* When one is longing for something / someone
* Having the feelings for inferiority
* Being resentful of circumstances
* A strong desire to “want” a rival’s qualities
* Being motivated to improve in a field

So what is jealousy then

If you see above you will see a certain line between the two terms. But since I am talking about jealousy do you also see what I see? So much of self destruction in each and every line. There is no justification to be jealous of others. Yes, one can be a little scared of losing someone to some other person you are not so much friends with, BUT then again trust is the basic groundwork here.

How not to be jealous at work

  • Appreciate other’s work when they succeed
  • Be friendly with those you work with
  • Do NOT hold back anything that might help someone at work
  • Work on your own skills rather than putting down someone else
  • Learn to talk only when you feel you have something good to say
  • If you are good at what you do, your work will outshine.. but don’t over do it to
make fun of others who aren’t capable enough
  • Everyone is different, maybe what they have is made for them, and what you have is something they want.. thought about that?

How not to be jealous in a relationship

  • Build your relationship on trust, because this is very important
  • Separate lust from love, because there is a HUGE difference here. The first one leads to destruction if love isn’t involved
  • Build up your self-esteem – The more confident you are about yourself, the more worthy you will feel of someone’s love.
  • When you are going through a “jealousy” phase do you feel that a rule set by you has been broken? Does your partner know about that rule? If not then it’s time to get a pad out and share what both of you feel comfortable with and what things are to be followed. This will ensure that no further issues come up.
  • Do you have a history of “being jealous”? If so then please get in touch with a specialist who can help you with that.
